St.
Paul's Episcopal Church in Kent County, Maryland, commonly
called Old St. Paul's, is located approximately seven
miles west of Chestertown on the upper Eastern Shore.
The present church is the second building on the site
and was completed in 1713. It is the earliest religious
structure in Kent County, and with the possible exception
of Old Trinity in Dorchester County, the earliest surviving
Anglican Church on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Whether
you are new to the area, visiting from out of town,
or just visiting us in cyberspace, we welcome you to
St. Paul's and invite you to participate in our life
of worship and service.
St. Paul's, Kent, is a small, rural parish with a long
tradition of worship and service. We are a part
of The
Diocese of Easton. We hold a variety of understandings
about how God is involved in our lives;
and we vary in age, race, politics, lifestyle, and
tradition. Together, however, we are a
worshipping community of Christians responding to the
call to know Christ and to make Him known in this place
and in our time through the caring acceptance of all
people, the faithful sharing of our hopes and fears
and the offering of our gifts as inspired and guided
by the Holy Spirit.
We
want to help you feel at home. Our liturgy can be confusing,
so, if you are unfamiliar with it, an usher will seat
you next to a friendly "old timer"
who will help guide you through our service. The red
book that you will find in your pew is the Book of Common
Prayer (BCP), and the blue is our Hymnal. You
will see the Hymn numbers posted in the order in which
they will be sung at the left front of the Nave behind
the choir.
The pamphlets in the tract rack at the back of the Nave,
the books in the library and our annual Inquirers' Class
(held in the Fall) will help you to learn more about
our denomination. Our adult classes on Thursday mornings
and the coffee hour which follows the 10:30 am service
on Sunday are both good times to ask questions.
If
you feel that you need more information, we have placed
a more complete description and discussion on another
page in this website. To reach that page, click
here.
Most
of us were once newcomers to St. Paul's and to the Episcopal
Church. Please ask the clergy, ushers or greeters any
questions
which might help you feel more at home in our parish.
