From Allen
Lent, 2012
Dear Friends,
Beginning in Lent on Sunday mornings between services, a new bible study opportunity will be inaugurated. The plan is to begin in the Common Room about 9:15 and wrap up around 10:10. Commentary materials for the weekly lessons and Gospel will be available for discussion.
It seems especially appropriate to begin this new venture during Lent. Lent which begins on Ash Wednesday is a seasonal lens through which to focus on honest self-examination and spiritual renewal.
If that sounds a bit daunting, be assured, when we take even a small amount of time to pray and read scripture with an eye on bringing ourselves to God, seeking a closer relationship, God takes care of the spiritual renewal! God takes care of it anyway, but when we seek it, God has much more to work with: our desire.
God always meets us more than half way. God has already taken the initiative to enter our lives in the person of Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. God stands by the door of our hearts constantly. When we even think about knocking, God has it open and is ready to converse: "My house or yours."
Venture forth into the world of holy listening and trustful conversation by staying after the 8:00service or come early to the 10:30. One can do things like give up chocolate for Lent or take something on. I can’t think of a better way to grow than in the light of God’s holy Word, the lively word of Good News in every circumstance of life. Gather with Christian friends, old and new. Hope to see you there.
Love,
Allen+
